    Castellation or plated semi/half-hole PCBs are a type of PCB that consists of half-cut holes alongside its edges. These edges can be used to connect the PCB to the other parts of the circuit. Half-drilled holes with half apertures on the top and half on the bottom are called castellated holes, and they are copper-plated and situated on a PCB’s periphery. They allow for space-saving directly soldering interconnections across the PCB border to other devices or PCBs.

    ∙ During manufacturing and assembly, we attach the PCB to a panel using brake tabs. Each tab requires up to 5 mm of edge length, and two are typically placed per edge. However, as might be predicted, the size and form of the board have a significant impact on the quantity and placement of tabs.

    ∙ A copper circular ring needs to be present on the board’s top and bottom. The final hole diameter + 0.70mm is the smallest pad size that we advise. For instance, the pad size should be at least 1.50mm if the finished hole size is defined as 0.80mm, which is our suggested minimum hole size. This results in a 0.30mm annular ring.

    ∙ We strongly advise inner layers to preserve the identical size pads at the end of the annular rings in the outer layers, unless it is unfeasible; this will boost the castellated hole’s mechanical strength.

    ∙ Although we suggest a to be 0.8mm or bigger, we may make castellated holes with a completed hole diameter as low as 0.5mm. Additionally, the PCB must have precisely one-half of the hole left on it any other split ratio could result in more manufacturing errors.
